Our solution
As you have read on the first page of this website we to have encountered the shortcomings
of some of the most used e-mail programs around the globe.
The uncertainty that the items we send over the internet will not be captured and
read by other people withholds us from sending that contract or other more or less
confidential material using an everyday e-mail system.
Furthermore it is impossible to attach and send large files or files of a specific
type using regular e-mail.
Another shortcomming is that we never know if our message and its attachments have
reached the intended destination.
That's why we decided to build Transfer It Online like an e-mail program but with
full security and virtually no file size or type restrictions.
Did we go too far? Probably but nobody will regret putting to much security into
the transport of their data.
We only allow persons known to the system to send and receive messages.
Each user holds two keys:
- The public key of a user is held centrally and is used by the originator of a message
to encrypt the message to be sent to another user.
- The private key is known only within the destination computer and no message received
can be read without it.
No other person can decrypt and make the message readable without the private key
this message was intended for.
This means that the receiver will need to protect his/her private key which, in
normal situations, never leaves his computer.
The user needs to make a backup copy of his "Public-Private key pair" file generated
during installation of the program. More information on "Public-Private key" encryption
may be found on wikipedia.
